Hi Everyone,

A colleague sent the below link to an article published in The American Scholar, entitled "The Decline of the English Department." I think the article is worth reading and I also think we might usefully convene a roundtable on the future of both the English department and the English major as part of the spring conference of the New Jersey College English Association (for info see njcea.org).

Though the deadline for both panel and paper proposals for the conference is approaching it is not here yet. If you are interested in participating in a roundtable on this topic then please contact me asap. If there is enough interest I'll send a proposal for the roundtable to Nira Casale who is the principal organizer of this year's conference.

The article can be found here: http://www.theamericanscholar.org/the-decline-of-the-english-department/.

If you would want to be a member of the roundtable then please email me your name, affiliation, email address, snail mail address, and phone number.

Thank you for your interest in what I think is a timely and important topic.

Best wishes and happy new year,

Burt
