Emergent Trends in Poetics: 

 

A Colloquium at Centenary College of New Jersey

 

October 19-20, 2009

 

Poet Mark Doty, winner of the National Book Award, is the 2009-2010 Gates Ferry Lecturer at Centenary College of New Jersey. He will read on Monday, October 19 at 8 pm and will be on campus on Tuesday, October 20 to participate in our Poetics Colloquium. The event is free and open to the public. You are welcome to attend and bring students or other guests. 

 

We invite poets and scholars from the tri-state area to propose a presentation or panel. If you would like to participate as a presenter, please send a brief proposal by September 15 to Mary Newell, newellm at centenarycollege.edu. Indicate your availability for morning or afternoon. 

 

We welcome a variety of topics related to contemporary poetry, including the following:

  Poetry of place; regionalism and/or multi-cultural trends

  Should poetry be Political?

  Sources for contemporary poetry 

  Poetic forms: the prose poem; performance poetry

  Intersections between poetry and other art forms 

                Publication options 

                How to build a writing / readership community
